And it all begins again

4 weeks ago, i stuck to a plan. A well thoughout plan which involved me to just stick to the basics and run the miles. 3 weeks into i was super disappointed. why?

1) Didn't manage to complete my targeted distances
2) Forgot to add the fun quotient in my run
3) Blamed my shoes
4) I have had issues with my body (August 3rd is the appointment for them to diagonize the problem)

Week 4, the same issues kept bothering me and today 7/24 i decided to buy a new shoes. This time its Asics a break away from my traditional Sacuony. I have been using the same brand from past 3 years and really getting all comfortable in it. But the technology has improved and so is my need for a better shoe which can push me.

Let see how it goes from here. I have to cut down my schedule to 16 weeks and re do the 4 weeks for training. I am scared but can't give up.

There are a few races which i have signed up for which might help me with my ultimate goal

Saucony Omni 9 Junior – II

July 20th 2011, at exactly 8.10pm, Saccony Omni Junior – II passed away. The sudden death occurred near Arlington cemetery in Washington DC at 3.2 mile mark. He was 212 miles old.

Although Omni Junior – II was showing signs of withering down during the past one month the death was unexpected. His handler Indrajeet added “Everything seemed to be fine and then I could feel it in tremendous pain before passing away. It died right under my feet. I carried it all the way back from the cemetery to the house to prepare for his funeral” The handler also added that the he has pushed back his training by 2 weeks as a mark of respect to Omni Junior – II’s life.

Sacony Omni Junior – II funeral.

Omni Junior – II like its predecessor Omni Junior – 1 & Omni Senior has been serving the handler from the past 3 years. Every race the handler entered in the last 3 years have been solely due to the strength will power, control and balance that Sacucony Omni’s have provided., they controlled over pronation of the handler and balanced his run. They ran with him in three countries and successfully completed races.

The picture below shows Omni Sr in the hands of his handler, it was taken during the Abras AC Le Meriden Mina Seyahi race on 27th March 2009. Omni Senior completed the 10 kilometer race in 1Hr.06min

Omni Junior – II had a special place in the heart and mind of his handler. When asked the reason he added and I quote, “When I stopped running I started gaining lot of weight. I went from being 165 pounds to 202 pounds, gaining close to 6 inches on my belly. Omni Junior – II pushed me physical and mentally and helped come back to sport I love. It also taught me to enjoy the run and helped me socialize with some of the amazing people I have met so far. During the course of time I was able to lose significant pounds and be physically active again. I also entered into a competitive race after a gap of two years and completed it. It was my 6th half marathon and I finished it in my best time so far. I also completed a 10 mile race with it. I couldn’t have done it without support and motivation that Omni Junior – II provided during the course of the run. It always used to respond to me when I needed it the most and performed at its best even in the harshest of conditions. Today I can call myself a runner only because of the faith Omni Junior II showed in me during testing times.

Job application for the post of lecturer: Electrical Engineering.

A lecturer’s job are you kidding me, was the first thing that went through most of my friends mind when I introduced them the idea about me attempting to teach. Can you really teach them, are you sure you wana do this? Don’t play with the students life was what everyone seemed to propose.

Yes I was sure. I gave ABB job a pass to get into teaching and there were considerable other reasons too 

First day in a classroom in front of students who are 3 -5 years younger than you, teaching them talking to them and interacting with them. Yeah that was a challenge. I could do this I said.

Teaching

As a youngster I knew I had to do something different for them to listen to me. So I took notes in my laptop, told them only to listen and not to write anything in the book. So that more time would be given to discussion rather than making notes. It sure worked in the first week but soon backfired when students started taking things for granted.

Back to the traditional way of teaching, the only teacher whom I really understood while she taught me in the class was Miss Bindu S. She commanded the attention of each and every student in the class. She used to ask what was taught in the previous class before starting the present lecture this prompted students to have up to date class books. I did the same too  This worked.

 During the feedback
I got a 4.2 score out of 5 for Project Management: 2nd Highest in electrical dept. for 6th Semester. Better than teachers who were permanent.
Also in Industrial Electronics a score of 4.9 out of 5 : 1st in 4th Sem Mechanical

Interaction

Sports Day, Tech Fest or Other college activity I was always there around with my students, damn I even played with them outside the railway station. I even played basket ball inside the campus and a senior lecturer mistook me for a student and asked us to stop playing. hahaha. This is so not what a lecturer does but I guess education should be imparted and not imposed. So interaction was never an issue with them

Discipline

As I was an ex- angel student I was rightfully taught that use of cell phone was banned within the campus, here in the college were I teach the use of cell phone was so rampant that students came up with strange answers when caught using their cell phone during classes.

“Sir, it was my mom trying to call me, so I was messaging her that I am in a lecture”

I had imposed a carpet ban on use of cell phone in at least during my class.
If I caught some with their cell phone, I used to tell them. Okay boy call your DAD NOW, tell him what you are doing with your cell phone during college hours. Or better call you’re MOM, she would certainly get upset quicker.

I was strict during exams time too “ No Identity card, No library card, No need to write the exam was my first sentence when i entered the class” but I used to allow them to copy too, well sometimes we need to be lenient.
I even had a competition with Krishna (Mechanical Dep’t Lecturer) about who catches more number of students cheating during exams. He won, his score was around 38 students while I was stuck on 11. We always used to look forward to get a chance to invigilate for exams. That was fun

Farewell

Well they say all good things come to an end, it sure did in my case. I loved what I was doing 3 months seemed just like a day. The moment you fall in love with your job is the moment you feel like improving on the skills required for the job. I fell in love but I had to go as the contract ended.

I probably got the best exit from college when students came up to me to thanks and wish me luck for my future, gosh that was a moment which you would like to pause for times to come. And i guess that was the first time it was done. Teachers telling me that students like you and they like to listen to you. They sure did trust me. :)
